This week we are talking the importance of self-care, but first and foremost, WHAT IS IT? What does it mean? How do you do it? What are some easy ways we can practiced better care for ourselves? Some of the points I discuss:

1. Self-care should not be a once-in-a-while BIG thing. It should be small habits that you build into your everyday routines.

2. SLEEP is so important, and most of us could be doing better about getting proper rest.

3. It's important to practice good "emotional hygiene." I explain what I mean by that with some ideas about how you can focus on improving in this area too.

4. We need to let go of "busy" as a badge. the best and most effective workers are not those that are "on" 24/7 and constantly stressed. The best and most effective workers (at home or in the workplace) are those who balance their work with downtime.

I am thrilled to share a fun and enlightening conversation I had with Katie Kimball from Kitchen Stewardship. Katie shares beautifully about conserving resources, eating and cooking with real food, and teaching our kids kitchen skills, as well as offering some tips for staying healthy through the cold and flu season this year.

This week we are talking about some easy, pain-free ways to improve your eating habits starting RIGHT NOW! I share the following ideas:

1. Roast your veggies!

You and your family will enjoy a greater variety of vegetables more often if you make a habit of roasting them -- so easy and so good!

2. Don’t drink your calories!

Way too many drinks have way too much sugar in them. Don't fall for it! Find ways to replace high calorie beverages with water, seltzer or other drinks.

3. Plan ahead!

We often make poor food choices when we are stressed or rushed. Prepare ahead to make healthy foods as easy to choose as less nutritional ones.

4. Have some chocolate!

Keep temptations under control by having small pieces of one high-quality chocolate bar when cravings strike. You will amazed by how little you need to feel "satisfied" for a sweet treat.

We also talk about saying goodbye to big kids at the airport, celebrating children's birthdays during busy seasons, and my all-time favorite topic -- LAUNDRY!Send me your feedback on all of these and any other questions you may have. I would love to hear from you!

Happy new Year! In this episode, we are talking about some doable ideas for goals we should all think about setting in 2017. Even if you are not a resolution-making kind of person (I'm not), we can all benefit from a prompting to look back at the year that has passed and look forward to the future with an eye to what we might like to happen.

I challenge you to join me in setting some do-able goals in each of the following categories:

1) Set a spiritual goal.

2) Set a professional goal.

3) Set a relationship goal.

4) Set a health goal.

After you have decided what you might like your goals to be, let's break them down into some smaller steps that you can take action on right away. For example, if you have a health goal of running a 5K in the spring, you can begin today by researching and starting a run/walk program of training to get you there. Or if you have a relationship goal of spending more time with your elderly aunt, call her up today and commit to a time this week that you can go visit her. Whatever your goals, make sure you move toward making them a reality right away.

Let me know what your goals are for 2017 and how we can help support you in achieving them!

This week, I also share a belated voicemail from listener David about taking kids to Midnight Mass. Let me know what you think!
